How it works

From a first idea
to a finished book.

Start from a theme or a blank page. You decide how much to shape it, and we write and illustrate the rest.

  1. Pick a theme or start from scratch

Choose a storyline that’s ready to go, like a birthday quest or 18 lessons for a daughter, or begin with an idea of your own.

  2. Add your characters

People of any age, pets, toys and other animals. Add a photo if you like, or describe them in a few words.

  3. Choose an art style

From 3D animated film to pencil sketch and watercolor. Every page is drawn in the style you pick.

  4. Guide the story as much as you like

Share the moments to include, the tone and anything to leave out, or just a sentence. We write the rest, and you can edit any page.

  5. Preview, then order

Read the whole story and see the cover and two illustrated pages. When you order the printed hardcover, we illustrate the rest.

Art styles

Pick the look
that suits the story.

Your characters are drawn in the style you choose, on the cover and on every page.

  • Classic storybook

Hand-painted gouache with soft textures, like a treasured picture book.

  • 3D animated film

Soft, rounded 3D characters with cinematic lighting, like an animated feature.

  • Bright cartoon

Bold outlines and cheerful flat colors with lots of energy.

  • Pencil sketch

Graphite lines with a light wash of color, quiet and personal.

  • Soft watercolor

Loose, glowing washes of color with gentle edges.

  • Cut-paper collage

Layered paper shapes with real texture and handmade charm.

  • Vintage picture book

Mid-century print look with a limited, sunny palette.

  • Soft anime

Hand-drawn animation look with lush painted backgrounds.

Good to know

Common
questions.

Have another question?
We’re happy to help.

How does writing my own story work?

Choose “Write your own story” and tell us the idea, even in a single sentence. You can add moments to include, things to leave out, the tone and who the book is for, or leave those to us. We write the whole book around your characters. You can edit any page or ask for a rewrite with notes before any page is illustrated.

Is my book written and illustrated by AI?

Yes. Anthropic’s Claude models write the text and Krea draws the illustrations, from the details you give us. You can read and change every page before any page is illustrated, and a person on our team checks the finished book before it goes to print.

Can I add pets, toys or several people?

Yes. A book can have up to six characters: people of any age, pets, other animals, toys or creatures you make up. You choose who leads the story and how everyone is connected.

Do I need to upload a photo?

No. A photo helps us capture someone’s likeness, but a short description works too: their hair, glasses, a favorite sweater, the shape of a dog’s ears. Either way they’re drawn as an illustrated character, not a photograph.

Which art styles can I choose from?

There are eight: classic storybook, 3D animated film, bright cartoon, pencil sketch, soft watercolor, cut-paper collage, vintage picture book, and soft anime. The whole book, cover included, is drawn in the style you pick.

What’s illustrated before I pay?

The cover and two sample pages, so you can see the style and how your characters look. Every page of text is written up front, so you can read the whole story first. The remaining pages are illustrated after you order.

Can a book handle something sensitive, like remembering a pet?

Yes. Remembrance themes are written in a calm, gentle voice. You decide what to include and what to leave out, and you can read every page and change the text before any page is illustrated.

Can I review the book before it’s printed?

You read the full story and see the illustrated preview before you pay. After you order, the rest of the pages are illustrated in the same style, and a person on our team checks the finished book before it goes to print. You can follow your order from your account.

What happens to the photos I upload?

Photos are used only to draw your characters. They’re stored privately with your account and never published or sold. You can delete a character on your Characters page, which deletes its photo and drawings too. If one of your books uses that character, delete the book first, or contact us if you’ve already ordered it. Our privacy policy has the details.
